My Art (in abstract)Art is the life I live in my head. Though I appreciate those who use art to convey a message, to expose tragedy or simply to explore their chosen medium, I cannot count myself among them. When I walk, I am grounded; when I make art, I fly.
Though drawing is the method I use the most, I work just as comfortably with collage, almost every form of printmaking, papermaking, bookmaking and, occasionally, painting. I almost always work on paper, and my every action as an artist is supported by a backbone of dance, music and writing (both the poetic and the painfully un-poetic). Art is, to me, the only avenue of continued exploration of the four muses that I find satisfying.
Many of my drawings come from dreams, directly or indirectly. It’s fairly rare for me to dream up a good drawing, but I do go to places in my dreams that form themselves into deep, calm reservoirs which I use to escape from the painful mundanity of the modern world, and from which I pull wonderful images into my consciousness that I attempt to translate into decent images on paper.
When dreams fail me, the same basic effect can be reached by producing (through a certain kind of meditation) a hallucinatory, dream-like waking state. By doing this, I can see the corporeal incarnation of my emotional experience, which I then try to record.
